The Island

The structure chosen was used to create the world of the island.  The mounds produced a varying topography.  The spirits and islanders navigate the structures in various ways.  The challenge was replicating the design while holding the integrity of the structure.

Drafting

Communication is always important and this was very true for this show.  Drafting had to be approached in a very organized and highly calculated manner.  This 84 Plate show was completely drafted in 3D with multiple layouts.  Each platform had a full cutlist with miter and bevel information.  The mound isometric has a full semi-hidden staircase within along with a trap opening for a quick entrance and exit.

Logs

The log wall was made from 350 different diameter foam spheres.  Some 4" to 6" deep.  The wall was tappered and curved.  The entire unit was built on a CNC router then assembled.  The unit rode on UHMW and glided onstage.

CNC Work

This was just one part of the CNC constuction.  This was one of the backing sheets for the log foam pieces.  This is a ShopBot CNC and I created the files for this project with the help of Neil Pierce.
